You have been here with me

for this time

but it will end, so soon

so very soon

and you will pack your things

load them into that truck

and drive away

taking with you, your touch

your voice spoken so close

taking away, your presence here

that fills this house

emptiness will reign again

as we adjust

for the time

that you will be gone

from here

adjusting

to the quiet of the house

to an empty pillow beside me

an empty chair at the table

I wait for your calls

from somewhere out there

somewhere, along the road

as those lines and signs

take you farther, take you further

take you away

from me, from us

for a time
