because we did not speak

When the time comes

and we take our place before You

will there be, an empty place

near by, beside us, behind us

because we did not speak?

Will we look around and see

someone, who isn't there

our heart crashing down

tears falling freely, because

because we did not speak?

To our neighbor, just across the way

sharing what we know

in words, in action

showing to them, the Light we have, inside

will we search for, and not find

a co-worker that we have known for so long

years have been spent, day by day working together

but they are missing, because

because, we did not speak

did not share, what we know, what we hold inside

because, we did not fully set ourselves apart

giving them cause to see and to ask

what do you have, that makes you different?

We did not, share

now they are missing from the line

We look around us, searching through the multitude

and a dear friend, is missing

not there, anywhere, because

because we did not, speak up

in the moments when we could have

we remained silent

and they are not here

Family, where is the one you loved so dear?

not here

stretching, bending, turning you look

but they are not here, nowhere in line, nowhere in the crowd

tears fall now because

because you did not speak

they are not here

when it would have been so simple

a few words, a life spent living the truth

set apart from worldly ways, just enough

to cause the question, why? What do you have

that makes you different?

but you did not speak up

chose to hide the light, because

you feared the reaction, the rejection

you feared not doing it right, not saying it right

because,

even as you knew the truth, knew this day would come

you chose to remain silent, not sharing

now, as you stand and search you see

they are not here, because

because you, did not speak.

Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.



Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."
