Challenge and a really good opportunity for a good laugh

                                                            a little bug told me-

Challenge-opportunity for a good laugh here-

As I mentioned over on face book I have been thinking. That in itself is enough to make people either nervous or just go ahead and flat out run away. This however is for a good cause. The American Cancer Society and Relay for Life.

If you are reading this, then you probably already know that I am a breast cancer survivor. I was diagnosed and went through my personal battle in 2008. Now here I am cancer free and fighting to help other people join me in celebrating more birthdays.

One of the ways I do that is write- a lot. I'll post a lot of blogs, I'll send a lot of emails, I write columns and submit them to what ever medium I think may run them.

I talk a lot. Sharing with people what I know, what I have learned, where if I don't know something that they can find the answers they need.

I participate in Relay for Life. I spend the night- all night- of the event. Why? Because cancer doesn't sleep and on that night neither do I. Well, not much anyway. I walk the Survivor Lap. I walk countless miles through the night. I tear up as the Luminarias are lit and the lights go out. To walk past bag after bag with someone else's name emblazoned across it, brings a lot of tears. So many, cancer touches so many.

I also fundraise. I've sold things for Relay for Life, shirts, tickets for pancake breakfasts, barbecue, trinkets bangles and beads in the quest to raise money to help find a cure.

In the past few days I've been watching all of those Pink Glove videos on Youtube. Some are really good and some are a lot of people have a blast as they draw attention to the fight against (breast) cancer. So, my idea was--that if people help me to exceed my fundraising goal I will create one of those videos. Where does the good laugh come in? I don't dance. I have not really danced since I was somewhere around twenty years old. I am now 53..that's a pretty big gap. But- I would gladly embarrass, humiliate, and invite ridicule to myself in the process of raising money for a good cause. I will find a way to make this video one of good technical quality so that my lack of dancing skill will be clear and obvious. The video will be made at various places here on the Dirt Road and nearby locations. I will draft- um- enlist, the aid of my son in operating the camera so that it will be minus any gaps while waiting for me to enter the scene..

AND

If there are those that are seriously frightened of the prospect of seeing this 53 year old lady dancing-- I will also accept donations to keep me from dancing. Which ever gets the most- wins..actually, the ACS and Relay for Life wins. We just get to have a great bit of fun and a grand time bringing that about.

Donations can be made online on my personal page here or you can print out a form and mail in the donations directly to ACS..just tell them its for me. You can also make a check out to ACS and send it to me, contact me and I'll tell you where to send it. Or- if you're local and see me out and about I'll gladly accept a donation and count your vote for which-ever.

Also- my books are still available and a portion of each sale goes to Relay for Life.

The person who donates the most will receive a signed copy of one of my books- their choice.

whispered prayers

Silent prayers I have whispered

from a weary heart.

Whispered, seeking answers

seeking help, seeking You

as the days passed, each day another stone

pulling at my spirit, tugging at my soul

leaving me crying, leaving me ever more stronger

seeking You, seeking Your presence

Knowing, always knowing

You heard the whispers, You heard and You saw

as I fought the demons around me

even as I sought You daily, moment by moment

in prayer

silent prayer

whispers from a weary heart, seeking You

storms of this place gathered round me

as the darkness grew ever stronger

my faith did not waver, did not falter

I knew, yes I knew You heard

I know, yes Lord I know

my time, is not Your time

I know, that it is in Your time

that You will answer

as You wait, as You watch

as You draw me ever closer to You

in prayer

silent prayer

whispers from a broken heart

cries from a weary soul

pleas from one that believes

from one that trusts

as I wait, secure in You

When You answered, as I knew You would

responding to the prayer of a broken child

healing began anew, in You

recognizing, all things, come from You

I knew, even as I listened

to a neighbor, to a friend, to the man down the street

they were sent, in answer

what they said, what they did; an answer

to a whispered prayer

silent prayer

from a weary heart

to a gracious Lord, a loving God

joyous now, singing praise singing praise

I stand in Your light

sheltered by Your love, bathed in Your mercy

I know, the songs of this heart

the shouts of this spirit

are to You, for You

for You have heard my whispers

answered my pleas

wiped away the tears from these eyes

wrapped in Your love, secure in Your peace

I stand, arms raised to You

assured of the love

assured of the answers

to whispered prayers

in Your Time

You have heard my cries

the pleas from my lips, You heard

in my agony, I wondered, as I waited

how long, must I wait, how long, must I worry

as I cried out to You, in my sorrow

in my fear

I knew, yes I knew You heard

I know, our time is not Yours

as night after night, moment by moment

I came to You, sending up my pleas to You

ease this our distress

strengthen us, under this burden

lift from us, the worries of this storm

night after night, my prayers to You

night after night, as I closed my eyes

I believed, even as I worried

when

but You have heard those cries

Your response amazing a praise I send to the Heavens

my heart shouts to You, for You, about You

How You have answered, responding in abundance

My cries were heard, not ignored

My cries, my prayer went up to You

in Your time, You answered, In Your time You responded

I know Lord, I know, what You have done

an amazing and awesome feat

You have gifted us with peace

the storm calms before You

worries and stress; fears and concerns flee

running from Your presence

obeying Your word

Every night, I prayed to You

knowing You heard, waiting, for Your time

in the abundance of Your love

today was Your time

today, You have blessed us

today, You have made special

I know, Lord, I know

---Interview---

While being 'famous' is not something noted in my 'bucket list' I know that if I want this writer thing to pan out, there are some things that will have to be dealt with. When I was writing the somewhat regular column for the local paper it really felt odd (but good) to be recognized when I was out and about. To be able to talk to the people who were actually reading things that I had written, and finding out that they actually liked a lot of it- was an amazing feeling. I miss that but, things do end.
As it is, I have self-published three books. Two of which are inspirational poetry and the other is a young adult novel. I even managed to get these books in honest to goodness bookstores.
A while back I was interviewed on blog talk radio. I was scared silly, but I made it through and didn't even really goof up (too badly). The day after my son's birthday I read some exerts out of my latest poetry book "Blessed in His Promises" I was scared willy with that as well-- right up until Ozzie started screaming in my pocket. I had borrowed my son's cell phone due to myine needing a charge. Trust me in that Ozzie is a great ice breaker.
Now, here I am wondering about this email. I received a request for an interview. It is exciting, its frightening in a way. How does one answer these questions, make sense and sound intelectually interesting? One never knows who may end up reading this interview somewhere along the way.
Okay- so there is no threat of a Pulitzer, or Nobel Prize waiting on me to answer and run. In fact, this is an interview sent to me by my neice  as part of a homework assignment-- but hey-- we all have to start somewhere.

without further adeu-- the interview:

Please help me with my homework.(Due 2/17)

For my Art Appreciation I was asked to interview an artist (any type) so I chose you.

I need a short paragraph telling about your self and what kind of art you do and pictures of your work.

I am a 53 year old cancer survivor. Wife, mother and full time employee, I am also an avid photographer. It is rare that I go somewhere without my camera being within reach. My favorite shots are natural. I have no qualms about climbing hills, or trees, or even crawling around on the ground to get the right angles. I've straddled creeks in the quest for just the right position, for just the right lighting effect.
I love landscapes, but I really like close-up work. Trying to capture all the minute details, trying to catch a bumblebee or humingbird in flight. To get a sharp image that captures the colors, emotions, action in that one brief second of time..

I also need you to answer the following:

1. How did you start collecting or creating your work?

I have had an active interest in photography since the first time I held a camera. To be able to track down and capture a moment, an expression, a mood is a never ending challenge. There is always something just a little better waiting.
There is also more recently the time when I went thru the cancer diagnoses and treatments. During the weeks when I was undergoing radiation after I got home I would go for long walks camera in hand. The challenge of finding something new or a new way of seeing the every day was the distraction I needed at that time.

2. What inspires you to create?

Again, there is the challenge to catch that one special elusive moment. There is a peace when you are out working on landscape or close-up photography. Its you and nature working together. With each photo that I feel is pretty good, I know there is that one 'prefect' image just waiting to be captured by my camera.

3. What is your favorite medium?

I always loved the results that I achieved with 35mm, but after getting some experience with digital that is my new favorite. You can take hundreds of photos in the quest for the one. Those you don't like or feel have no future are easily done away with and you haven't put out a small fortune only to throw it away. Digital is also easy to manipulate once you have the images uploaded into the computer.

4. Did you go to college to study your trade?

I took a correspondence course years ago, but I mainly rely on my gut instinct of what "feels" right.

5. What is your favorite color?

I don't know that I can nail it down to one color. I like earth colors, blues, greens, reds and all of their hues.

6. What is your favorite work of art?

The Sistine Chapel and the works of Michelangelo. There is also a painting that I remember my late art teacher creating that was magnificient.

7. Who was your role model growng up?

My grandmother. She had intelligence and inner strength, yet she was never anything but a lady.

8. Do you like Pablo Picasso's artwork?

Yes, because they cause to to stop and really look at the painting. There is always something different and interesting lurking within the artwork.

9. If you could meet an artist from history, who would it be?

Michelangelo

10. What is your favorite animated movie?

Ice Age. There was 'life' in the characters. The emotions, the battles, the moments were more real. You could lose yourself within the movie without feeling as if you were being talked down to.

-- Sent from my Palm Pre

when this life is done

When this time is done

finished is our work

we come to You

we do not know the time

all we can do, is spend what we are given

doing all we can

sharing the words

the blessings

of Your love

when this, our time is done

our work finished

the light that was our life

extinguished

we come to You

leaving behind those

to carry that light on

lighting other candles

lighting other lamps

with love and peace

with acts of kindness

You love us, offer to us the gift

of sweet forgiveness and peace

saved from worldly, sinful ways

we go out, a light to You

when this, our time is done

our work finished

we come to You

to kneel at Your feet

listening for the words

well done

when

this life, is done
