groanings of a grateful heart

Your Spirit within whispers sweet prayers

when my heart is at a loss

not knowing, what to say

wordless moments of gratitude

wordless whispers, murmurings of love

You are Lord resounds in my mind

slipping easily from my lips

You are King of Kings, Bread of Life

I know, these to be true

prayers are easy, softly spoken through out the day

for I know, You are with me

speaking with You is easy as we walk

but there are moments, quiet moments

when the heart is at a loss

how to say, thank You Lord, thank You

when the heart is at a loss

on how to say, I love You Lord

Savior of man, Lamb of God

for what You did for me

kneeling before You, the words are not there

tears fill my eyes in sadness

but Your Spirit within, offers murmurings

sweet to You ear

It knows, what to say, silently honest

silently reverent, offering the groanings of a grateful heart

kneeling before You, with hands outstretched

hear me Lord, hear this heart as it cries

for Your love, Your presence overpowers all

filling me with such feelings unexplainable

I tremble in Your presence

am at peace, in Your presence

Your mercy is great, Your love is even more so

I tremble Lord, in Your presence

knowing, Your grace, feeling Your forgiveness

as it washes me clean

the heart has no words to offer

no words are adequate

Your Spirit within knows the words

silently offered up to You

silent groanings of a grateful heart

sweet music Lord to Your ear

When I struggle

There are days Lord, that I struggle

You see me, as I stagger under this load

fighting to remain true

even as I grow weary from the trials

weakness assails me, I stumble

You see me, I know, and I am ashamed

when I fall

when temptation for a moment wins

and a poison tongue runs free

whispering words best left unsaid

out of anger, out of fear, out of emotions of the world

when I should turn to You

cry out to You, for Your strength

gaining the ability to tame a runaway tongue

silence the words that slip out unbidden

temptation to speak harmful words

hurtful words that are not Your words of love and healing

I struggle here as I stagger

You call to me, I hear Your voice within my heart

speaking to me, calling me to You

rest in You, I find, healing of heart

cleansing of spirit, forgiveness

of my transgressions against You

my stumblings, my giving in Lord, how that must hurt You

even as You know our ways and weakness

even as You know, I will stumble and fall

You are here, to lift me up

No one has love as You do,

understanding and compassion immeasurable

I hear Your voice calling to me

as I grow weary, Your open arms a sanctuary of peace

Your love a safe harbor of healing

there are days, when I grow weak, weary

those days, I hear Your voice calling to me

calling me to come to You

and find rest and restoration

calling me, to come to You

Your love fills me and I need nothing more

Secure in You

So many things await

seeking to ensnare us, trip us

as we travel this path

temptations call from the shadows

their siren's song compelling

this path, is not an easy path

storm clouds gather, building around us

the darkness they bring can be frightening

I see these things

feel the cold winds as they blow

bringing the fear, bringing the sorrows

of the things that could have been

may have been, wished of but are not to be

I feel the rain that falls

pain inflicted by others or by wrong choices

so many things await us

as we walk this path

I have faced many on my journey

but I have learned Lord

You are here, always here

walking with me, Your Spirit within me

giving me strength to continue

You shelter me from the storms

I trust in You, run to You

when the winds blow cold

I give to You, the fears and struggles

seeking Your peace, seeking Your strength

You see, when the storms have made me weary

You draw me to You, comfort me in my pains

assure me in my sorrows

You draw me to You, draw me to rest in You

giving me chance to rebuild my strength

to continue this journey

facing the temptations with strong heart

for You are here, You are my strength

nothing can beat me down

as long as I run to You

walk with You, trusting fully

abiding completely

in You

Lord and Savior, Shepherd and King

all things that await, I hand to You

placing them at the foot of Your cross

taking away strength renewed

taking away, hope and faith fed

with Your loving peace

You are King of Kings

commanding all things

healing all hurts

calming all storms

drawing to You, all those

that will hear, and believe

You draw me Lord to You

and I come

the winds are silenced

the rains cease

I find rest, I find peace

secure in Your presence

A New Day

Morning's light, a slow dawn reaching out

pushing away the night

a new day arriving

long ago, in the quiet of the night

a star shines down

the quiet broken, by a baby's cry

a new day, arrives

Once, I walked in the darkness

my heart and soul weary

fearful of the things that lay hidden in the dark

drawn with an earthly desire

to those same things

aching inside, thinking, there was something better

but not knowing what it was

hearing a voice calling, but turning away

out of lack of understanding

as the darkness, grew deeper

and I fell farther into the pit

despair and futility were my companions

silent tears fell as the sobs remained caught in my throat

unable to escape, unable to make a sound

I walked in the darkness, alone

the laughter of evil echoed around me

as I sought escape

hearing again the voice, calling to me

a faint light before me

turning, for the first time I answered

and the light grew

following it, I made my way from the darkness

following it, I found the Light

the Way

hope filled the places once filled with despair

laughter replaces the sadness

as joy a remarkable joy filled the empty places of my heart

You called to me, offering what I had not found before

cleansing love, a new hope

You offered forgiveness and a beginning anew

You sought me out, called me from the darkness

brought me out into Your light

now and forever, I am not alone

now and forever, I walk in Your light, with You

You are Lord, You are Savior

I know, Your love, Your peace

that is my desire, my walk

You brought me from the darkness

I no longer fear, for You are with me

always

She (take two and call me in the morning- Blogophilia 44.3)

She watched as the sun came up. Sleep had been elusive and she yawned broadly as she rested her head against the cold window pane. She would have to leave for work soon. It would be a few hours escape from him, but she would have to deal with them. They suspected what she was dealing with. Thinking apparently that if she would accept that from him, she would readily take it from them. Not so. She would spend the next eight hours fending them off as usual. Ignoring their innuendos, dodging wayward hands, refusing offers of gifts of this or that. All for one hundred dollars a week. But it was more than the restaurant paid. Even there she had dealt with being held in a corner and... pushing that thought away as she pushed herself from the window she turned to face the room. He was sprawled out on the bed snoring. Another night of heavy drinking had him out of it for now. She knew he wouldn't awaken but still she eased quietly out of the room. Passing through the bathroom she ignored the mirror as she passed. She couldn't bear to look herself in the eye.

She descended the stairs slowly, carefully listening to the noises from above her. He slept on. Opening the door she walked out into the yard. Greeted by their Doberman she scratched the dog's ears as she pushed the gate open and headed for the car. She hated this. She was a small town girl accustomed to country and woods and birds. Here she was trapped in a city with houses on top of houses, interstates threading across the landscape and water- lots and lots of water. She was careful whenever she had to go around the water being she didn't know how to swim.

Turning the key in the ignition she sighed. It was moments like this that she hated. It was now, that she could hear those old pearls of wisdom, "you made your bed, now you have to lie in it."A lone tear threatened escape as she gripped the steering wheel, 'it would be so much easier,' she thought out loud, 'but the directions not included makes it so confusing and hard.'

Backing the car out of the short drive she turned in the direction of the interstate. Weaving in and out of the neighborhood streets she turned the radio up loudly. Sometimes it drowned out the loneliness and despair, not today. Her route on the interstate was usually short, today it was being extended thanks to a detour due to a problem on her exit. Now what? She only knew the one way. Exiting the interstate as quickly as she could she began to drive along the various roads. Taking one turn then another she made her way in the general direction she needed to go in. Tears threatened again as she tried to find something familiar. Time was passing quickly and she knew she was going to be late for work. She had no way of contacting anyone for directions, she feared stopping out here in the middle of this madness. An errant though slipped in, 'maybe you'll get lost enough that you'll find yourself on your way back home.' Just as she was about to give up and pull off somewhere and seek help she recognized a road sign. Turning onto that road she followed it the few blocks to where she needed to be. She had actually found her way there, and she wasn't too terribly late. She did however have a terrible stress induced headache.

The manager tossed a bottle of over the counter pain reliever to her with the instructions, "take two and call me in the morning." She managed a tight smile as she thought, 'you are so not funny.'

She-- (ongoing write)

. She was excited. It had been a long time since there had been any reason to be excited, but it was her birthday, and for some silly reason, she was excited. He was watching her, but she ignored him for the most part. Every once in a while she would glance in his direction and offer a smile. He hated being ignored or feeling as if he were, so she'd look up just for a moment then back to the cleaning at hand. He had told her that they were going to the neighbor's for a while once she finished. He didn't offer any explanations, but it didn't matter. When the last dish was dried and put away she dried her hands on the dishtowel and draped it across the drainer. Turning she was momentarily startled, she had not heard him move so close behind her. Usually she could sense his presence, but she had allowed her unreasonable excitment to distract her. That was not good. Draping his arm over her shoulders he turned her toward the steps.

"I have a surprise for you." he said as she made her way down the stairs. She didn't look back, she hated these steep stairs and did not trust them for a minute. They ended abruptly at the bottom, with only a couple of feet of space and a cement floor they were dangerous.

Going out the door she absently ran her hand across the dog's head as she walked to the gate. Getting in the car she watched as he took his place behind the wheel. He had been drinking. she hated riding with him when he had been drinking but usually she had no choice. This was one of those times. Thankfully the neighbor's they were going to was only two blocks away. She watched as he started the car, then turned her attention to the sights passing outside her window. Two blocks, she could handle two blocks.

When the car pulled into the driveway she looked at the other cars already parked there. Recognizing them she looked back at him. He grinned a Cheshire cat grin and motioned for her to go on inside. Just as she reached the door it swung open and she heard her name being called. Wrapped in a big hug she was practically pulled into the house. She loved this house and this family. They were her home away from home. They made things more bearable. As she stepped inside she heard the shouts of 'happy birthday!' A surprise party, they had planned a surprise party.

What was eaten, whether there was a meal, a cake or drinks wasn't important. The gifts that were given that night, wasn't important. It was the fact that so many friends had come together and even with limited funds had gotten her gifts. She laughed, she cried, she had a blast.

Then, suddenly, she felt the change in the air. Glancing over her shoulder she saw the expression on his face. He was not the center of attention. He had been ignored for too long. She knew better than to do that, but she had gotten all wrapped up in this and forgotten. She would pay, she knew she would pay.

"Time to go," was all he said. She got up and began collecting her gifts. He even helped to carry some of them to the car. She offered to drive. He drained the last of the beer in his hand and reached for another. All the while tightening his grip on the keys. She wasn't driving tonight. She thought she would walk home, but that wasn't to be either. Grabbing her by the arm he lead her to the car and opening her door roughly helped her into her seat. Buckling her seat belt she watched him as he came around the car.

When he sat down heavily she cringed. When he had trouble getting the key in the ignition she hoped. But the keys went in and the car fired right up. He eased back out of the driveway and turned toward their apartment. Maybe it will be okay after all she thought. When they reached the stop sign he turned and headed toward home. When he passed she it sank into the seat. This was not good. He drove around the block and then was once again headed toward home. Suddenly without warning he increased pressure on the gas petal. The car began to accelerate rapidly. Within moments the old car was doing 80, in a 35. She clung to the side of the door as the car kept speeding up. Just before they reached the stop sign he hit the brakes. The car slid through the stop sign and into the intersection. Regaining control he drove once more around the block. At the same location as before he pushed down heavily on the accelerator, causing the car to gain speed quickly. Once again it was moving in excess of 80 as she watched everything outside pass in a blur. Once more he slammed on the brakes and slid into the intersection. Before she could catch her breath he was driving around the block.

For the third time he shoved his foot down on the accelerator. For the third time she buried her head in her arms and held on tightly. This time, she decided enough was enough. Terrified she waited. Once again the spedometer reached 80, just as he reached the stop sign he hit the brakes. As the car slid around the corner into the intersection she made her move. Before he could speed up she shoved the car door open and jumped. Rolling briefly she jumped and ran. Hurring through the dark she made her way home. She didn't have her keys so she ran to the farthest corner of the yard and hid under brush that she had hidden under before. Trembling she waited.........

Do not believe an abuser when they say that no one else would ever care for you, no one else could- would ever love you. Never believe an abuser when they tell you how they act is your fault.. its a lie..their actions are their own, under their control or lack of control. If you are in an abusive relationship-- get out- get out now, there are people willing and ready to help you..

New

Standing in the doorway, looking outward

forward looking to what approaches

dawning light shines through the dim shadows of past's darkness

Facing the path to the future

that begins just outside the doorway

hope blooms along the way

inspiration like bees hum as it jumps from hope

to faith and trust

lights powered by the Son

a gentle rain of compassion, falling

warm and soft upon uplifted face

expressing the joys of knowledge

that what comes is new

what is left behind can not be changed

should not be forgotten

but delegated to the place it belongs

a past memory learned from

wounds that will heal, even if a scar is left

it is a lesson that taught

making one understand, that what comes

is new, is different, another chance

another moment, another breath

the dawning of a new

the dawning of another

as what was is left behind closed doors

what comes is welcomed with open arms

and grateful hearts

as we take that step out to meet it

in dawn's early light of new
